The Time Period

There really only seem to be one event, which overs both the national and world level, that seems to actually connect with my controversy and that is actually written around the same time period.  Also, I found it incredibly difficult try to find local articles from back in 2010.  The local sites make this very hard.  Therefore, the local stories are essentially unrelated to my controversy.

(Local)  This story is giving a brief overview of many successful Long Island business establishments that are now going bankrupt and consequently going out of business.

(Local)  The second local story reports briefly on the annual Legend of the Village Awards put on by VillageCare.  2010's gala profits went towards helping older adults suffering from HIV/AIDS and those with special rehabilitative needs.

(National)(Global)  This first article encompasses both the national and global level.  Thankfully this article is related to my controversy.  The article evaluates the movie Black SwanIt talks about the exaggeration that was implemented in the movie and touches on the neurotic eating habits of dancers.

(National)  This article pertains to the national controversy over full body scanners and pat downs at airports.  Around the same time as my controversy, full body scans and pat down increased in frequency, and many passengers complained.

(Global)  The second global story concerns the Wiki leaks caused by Julian Assange.  On December 18, 2010, he was arrested by police.  However, strangely, he is being interrogated more on grounds of sexual encounters than breaching government security.

Most of the events in the world seem to center around privacy and security.  The article that talks about the security breaches by Julian Assange, who leaked classified security documents to the general public.  Although this does not relate to my story, it does show what people seem to be most concerned about around the world.  The story relating to airport security was another national crisis.  Privacy and personal space became a right that really was being pushed to the forefront.  The film (Black Swan) was also something that reached national and global levels.  This was interesting to me because, like Macaulay's article, the controversy started in American and then spread over to Europe.  Perhaps this is because it covered a lot of the same subject matter?  The local level stories I found, seemed to concentrate more on financial information and local businesses; therefore, they were far less related to my story.
